چکیده

The development of alternative energy sources has attracted worldwide interest given the adverse effects fossil fuels on global climate as well their unsustainability. This study examines feasibility marine power generation off East Coast Trinidad and Tobago focuses mainly Vertical Axis Marine Turbine generator. At this location where data was collected, measurement depth varied between 3 to 10 m an average current speed 0.86 m/s suggests possibility generating through submerged turbines. modeled VACT produces 2870 Watts from a single unit. After considering technical environmental factors, concludes it is feasible utilize resources for Power Generation.

Experimental Studies on Savonius-type Vertical Axis Turbine for Low Marine Current Velocity

Renewable energy resources need to be explored to maintain and meet energy demand and replace the slowly depleting fossil fuels.  Malaysia, surrounded by sea with long coastlines, is poised to exploit the potential of this energy. This research work aims at designing a suitable device to extract energy from Malaysian sea current.  Malaysia’s ocean has a low current velocity averaging 0.56 m/s, ...

Computer Simulation Studies on the Effect Overlap Ratio for Savonius Type Vertical Axis Marine Current Turbine

The Ocean has provided a new avenue in the quest for renewable energy. One potentialsource of energy is marine current, which is harnessed using either vertical or horizontal axis turbines. This paper describes a particular type of vertical axis turbine which is suitable for low current velocityapplications. The simulation of Savonius-type turbine, which hitherto has never been proposed formarin...

Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Case Study

This case study investigates the generator of a large offshore Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). In particular this case study focuses on the effect of the inherent cyclic torque loading of the VAWT on the generator in terms of the costs and losses experienced. A spectrum of torque control strategies were created based on the ratio q of the allowed electrical torque variation to the mechanical...

Effect of the Shape of Stator Blades on the Performance Output of a Vertical Axis Marine Current Turbine

Due to the diminishing reserves of fossil fuels and increased pollution from exploitation of these fuels, the world is focusing on the renewable energy sources. Energy from tidal waves is one of the most exciting forms of renewable energy because of its consistent nature. Hence, the predictable, consistent and reliable nature of marine currents has enthused the researchers to emphasize on harne...

Experimental characterization of vertical-axis wind turbine noise.

Vertical-axis wind turbines are wind-energy generators suitable for use in urban environments. Their associated noise thus needs to be characterized and understood. As a first step, this work investigates the relative importance of harmonic and broadband contributions via model-scale wind-tunnel experiments. Cross-spectra from a pair of flush-mounted wall microphones exhibit both components, bu...
